Banned footballer Joey Barton has caused more turmoil within talkSPORT after his latest comments on the station outraged radio colleagues.

Barton said on Alan Brazil's breakfast show on Monday that Everton's plight was comparable to being left with the fat bird at the end of the disco. This prompted newsreader Sandy Warr to say on Facebook that it was: 'mind-blowing misogyny even by talkSPORT standards,' adding: 'glad to be on my way out of the door soon'.

Former host Mick Brown also commented: 'It is quite unbelievable the way the place is just left rudderless to allow things like that.'

Barton caused controversy earlier this month when he said caretaker Everton boss David Unsworth, whom he called 'a glorified PE teacher', was too fat to be a manager.

And Warr briefly walked out of the station following a heated debate with Brazil about Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn when he told her on air: 'Just get on with reading the news.'

Barton, who is serving a 13-month gambling-related ban, was originally due to join talkSPORT's evening kick-off show. But as that programme has a bookmaker as sponsor for live matches he was switched to a weekly appearance on Brazil's breakfast show.

TV network beIN Sport have flexed their muscles again to show Qatar's buying power despite the Gulf States blockade for alleged funding of terrorism. Doha-based beIN have signed a six-year deal with the ECB to broadcast the best of English cricket across the Middle East and North Africa through a dedicated cricket channel.

The rights were captured from Dubai's increasingly troubled OSN network, who also lost a similar deal with Australian cricket and failed with their Champions League bid.

IMG's dangerous game

The Premier League, who strongly opposed Manchester City's documentary series contract with Amazon Prime, will be unimpressed that their long-time TV partners IMG are working for both sides. IMG, who produce Premier League Productions for the overseas market, are also production consultants for Amazon's fly-on-the-wall project at the Etihad Stadium.

IMG say the Amazon partnership comes out of the US where their office in Los Angeles specialises in original content documentaries.

The Premier League say they understand that completely different IMG personnel are involved with Amazon. But IMG are playing a dangerous game as they have made serious money from their 50-50 partnership with the Premier League, who could decide to take the production in-house.

Sky Sports, who have a dedicated golf channel, are still in a stand-off with Augusta over 2018 rights to the US Masters. It's understood Sky have made a take-it-or-leave-it offer which Augusta have yet to accept. Augusta's position is strengthened by already having a BBC deal in place for highlights for the first two rounds and the weekend live.
