BestsellerMagazine.com - CATEGORY Daily Report: TITLE

The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance posts a blog in which the organization declares that the Foxconn project poses many unasked and unanswered questions for local officials. Some of the costs to the state have been disclosed, but still unknown is what local governments, through TIFs and other programs, will be expected to contribute.

The president of Marquette University, Michael Lovell, writes in a guest column for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Foxconn project could be a transformational moment for the state. He compares it to Pittsburgh when Google came and replaced the withering steel industry there.

In a piece for the Progressive magazine, Roger Bybee wonders if Wisconsin will get Foxconned. The deal will come with a very high price tag for state taxpayers, he points out, and Foxconn isn't one of the world's most credible companies to make promises that are fulfilled.

In a column that appears in the online edition of the Janesville Gazette, Steve Walters notes that two prominent Republicans who dealt with the transportation budget back in 1995 both insist that the gas tax needs to be raised by at least five cents in the new budget. Both former state Sen. Mike Ellis and former Assembly Speaker David Prosser are pushing the gas tax increase, he points out.

Longtime voucher and charter school advocate Howard Fuller, Milwaukee's former school superintendent, attacks the national NAACP in a column for the Journal Sentinel. He says the civil rights organization's attack on charter schools does a disservice to black students.

Madison's rightie blogger David Blaska wonders if Wisconsin will also get the new Toyota plant slated to be built in the U.S. He considers Janesville to be a logical choice for the Japanese automaker.
