South Africa were 269 for six at stumps on the opening day of the second cricket Test against India. Faf du Plessis (25) and Keshav Maharaj (10) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.
Stumps, Day 1
So, that’s end of day one. India will be happy to have picked three quick wickets towards the end and that means the day is shared by both the teams. India will now be eying to bowl South Africa under 350-run mark.
Another run out
What’s happening with South African batting, rather running. There was never a run, but Vernon Philander sets himself off towards non-strikers end without getting involved in the call. Both the batsmen end up at non-strikers end and Parthiv throws the ball towards strikers end. Pandya takes the bails off.
Ashwin removes Quinton de Kock
Two quick wickets for India late in the day. South Africa have lost half the side now. First ball duck for de Kock, he edges it to the slip and Kohli takes the catch.
Pandya runs out Amla
What a sad way to lose your wicket, when you are going great. Amla is run out. A direct hit by Hardik Pandya at the non-strikers end catches Amla short of the crease.
ABD departs, 50 for Amla
Big wicket for India as AB de Villiers is bowled. He gets an inside edge and onto the stumps. Breakthrough, India were searching for. Meanwhile, Hashim Amla has completed his half-century.
Tea, Day 1
After two good partnerships, another stand is in the making. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have thus far added 34 for the third wicket.
Markram falls short of hundred
Unlucky this for Markram. He falls six short of his hundred. Ashwin has accounted for a big wicket. Markram is given out caught behind, he opts for review but all in vain. South Africa lose second wicket.

Lunch, Day 1
South Africa are off to a good start. A half-century opening stand as India fail to pick a wicket in the opening session. Markram has gone past his fifty as well and looks all set for a big one. India will be eager to separate the two after the lunch break.
Markram, Elgar off to a solid start
This is turning out to be a good start for South Africa. The pitch looks nice to bat on and Markram has played some lovely shots thus far. He has been the aggressive than Elgar. Virat Kohli has so far used four bowlers, all pacers.
India Playing XI: Murali Vijay, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma.

Build-up: After slumping to a morale-sapping defeat in the opening Test, India will look to bounce back in the penultimate Test. The Virat Kohli-led side suffered a 72-run defeat in the first match in Cape Town to go down 0-1 in the ongoing series against South Africa.
