FOXBORO — While Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are not participating in the Patriots' OTA sessions this week, that doesn't mean they aren't in Foxboro.
Per source, both Brady and Gronkowski went for their usual treatments at TB12 on Monday. They were expected to do the same today, which is Day 2 of OTAs at Gillette a short walk away from the TB12 office at Patriot Place.
As expected, Bill Belichick didn't provide much insight into the stars' absences from the voluntary OTA practices.
Belichick spoke to the media prior to the practice, and was asked if he's had a conversation with Brady.
"I’m not going to talk about the people who aren’t here," Belichick said. "The guys that are here are improving and working hard. Those are the guys we’re focused on."
Asked if it was a challenge to have backup quarterback Brian Hoyer and third-stringer Danny Etling handle quarterback duties, the coach had a similar answer.
“All the guys that are here, not everybody’s working," Belichick said. "But all the guys that are here are improving and that’s a great opportunity for them and for our team to come together. That’s what’s happening.”
Belichick hadn't spoken to the media since Gronkowski announced that he was coming back to play the 2018 season. The tight end said he had a "productive" meeting with the coach, but Belichick wouldn't address that, either.
"Like I said, I’m focused on the guys who are here. Those are the guys we’re working with in this OTAs process, phase three," Belichick said. "Those are the guys I’m concentrating on. That’s what we’re focused on."
Belichick was also asked if it's important for players to be present for OTAs, which are voluntary, but didn't really answer that either.
"Well, we got a long way to go, as I said," Belichick said. "We have a long, long way to go. Each day is an opportunity for us. Try to make the most out of every opportunity."
