Indian utility vehicle (UV) manufacturer,
Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch a number of utility vehicles in the coming months, which includes cars like an all-new Mahindra U321 MPV, TUV300 Plus, SsangYong Tivoli based S201 compact SUV and the XUV500 facelift. The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift was recently spied testing for the first time in India alongside the S201 compact SUV and the TUV300 Plus. Now a report from CarDekho reveals that the XUV500 facelift will be launched in India in early 2018.
Earlier this year, Mr. Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development – Mahindra (Automotive Sector) had confirmed the
Mahindra XUV500 facelift will be launched in the country by year end. However, the launch seems to have been pushed to next year. Mahindra is expected to showcase the XUV500 facelift at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo while launch will take place subsequently. The new XUV500 facelift will get subtle design changes to its exteriors along with upgraded interiors with new upholstery and paint scheme.
The spy images only reveal the side profile of the 2018 Mahindra XUV500, which gets the XUV Aero inspired new 10-spoke alloy wheels. That said, the SUV is expected to get a new seven slot front grille (like new Scorpio) and revised front and rear profile. On the interior front, we can expect the car to get new upholstery, new interior color tones and a slightly revised cabin. More importantly, the new XUV500 will come equipped with an all-new petrol engine while the diesel mill will be updated to produce more power.
Speaking of the engine specs, the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 facelift will continue to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine; however, this mill will be tuned to produce a maximum power of 170 BHP and a peak torque of 400 Nm. On the other hand, the car is expected to get an all-new 2.2-litre petrol engine as well. Power figures of the petrol unit are not known yet, but both engines will come mated to 6-speed manual as well as automatic transmissions. The new XUV500 facelift will compete against the Tata Hexa and the Jeep Compass among others. We expect Mahindra to slightly hike the prices of the car with the facelift.
