If last year was any indication, Nike is really pushing Air Max Day. The celebration first debuted on March 26, 2014—three years before the 30th anniversary of the original Air Max 1. It feted the occasion with an exclusive Air Max 1 colorway, replete with a bright “Volt” sole and commemorative “3.26” stamp on the tongue. It’s a testament to Nike’s prescient marketing genius—what better way to get the sneaker community at large excited about new product while reminiscing about past hits?

From strategic collabs like the pink-infused COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Air Max 180 that debuted last fashion week, to modern silhouettes like the Air Max 270, it’s clear that dichotomy still applies to Air Max Day 2018. Today Nike unveiled the first slew of releases leading up to the celebration, and it’s a mix of Nike’s past, present, and future.

While only hinted at in the above teaser photo, Nike details some of its upcoming releases below:

Air VaporMax Plus: Mixing Sean McDowell’s cult-classic Air Max Plus—or “Tn”—design from 1998 with Nike’s newest sole that debuted just last year, this sneaker mixes a moldable mesh articulation with the lightweight VaporMax sole. The Plus’ signature “Tn” heel badge has been replaced with one that pays homage to the VaporMax. A limited number drops today on the SNKRS and SNEAKRS apps in the U.S. and E.U. If you miss out, there will be a wider release on January 25.

Air Max 180 “Ultramarine:” First released in 1992, the sneaker’s 180-degree visible air sole returns in the familiar “Ultramarine” colorway on February 2 with its striking hot pink and purple contrasts on the upper. Releasing February 2.

Air Max 93 “Menthol:” Released in 1993 (duh), this minty colorway was initially called the “270,” as it exposed 270-degrees of visible air, and is where the newer rendition takes its name. The neoprene collar also placed an emphasis on fit, comfort, and pioneered today’s trend towards knit sneakers. This drops on February 2.

Nike Air Max 270: Designed with lifestyle in mind, the mesh upper rests on a 32mm heel bag—the tallest one Nike’s produced thus far—and offers more responsiveness in the step. Expect to see new colorways on March 2.

In addition, models like the Nike Air VaporMax 97 (which, you guessed it—puts a 97 upper on a VaporMax sole), VaporMax Flyknit 2.0, and Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 1/97 Vote Forward SW (one of the winners of our 2017 Highsnobiety Crowns) will be released in the weeks leading up to Air Max Day 2018.
