India Vs South Africa, 2nd Test Day One As It Happened: Spinners, Openers Put India In Command - CATEGORY Daily News: TITLE

Buttler will play, bairstow will keep gloves and stay at 7, James Vince or Sam billings could come in from lions also. Duckett will get dropped but make no mistake he is an outstanding talent….I’m actually paraphrasing Geoff boycott on TMS here, who we all know doesn’t suffer fools. Duckett has a technical issue against off spin, high quality spin, but will be fine. He is just about as gifted an attacking batsmen as I think I’ve ever seen represent England, his runs have been in division 2 in county cricket but it’s the runs he’s made in the cup competition and in the lions games which have got him picked, I think he scored a 200 and a 150 in the same series in against Sri Lanka earlier in the year, in 50 over games (he really is an awesome talent, England don’t pick young kids usually based on white ball cricket for test matches, but he’s just looked too gifted to ignore this season). He will be dropped for the next test because his confidence is shot, but will be back in the summer back in England, and will hopefully have figured out his defensive method against off spin (can’t do it in a test match in India, needs time in the nets), he attacks it fine (may return for ODIs also).

The toss was huge, and the pitch was an utter featherbed on day 1, ridiculously so, however England batted poorly on day 2, when they should have done better….my fellow yorkies will crucify me but joe root caused the damage with a run out of hameed (who looks phenomenal for 19 by the way) and then a stupid shot trying to dominate ashwin when he could have walked to a hundred…Moeen bit unlucky with lbw down the pitch, and then lower order dragged it back a bit, but damage done. I think England probably would have won if they had won the toss, but who knows, it was certainly a bigger toss to win than the first game because the pitch had nothing at all in day 1, but fortunately it didn’t completely disintegrate as expected….however if it had, as the Indians wanted it to, then when two decent sides are playing the toss would have been the sole deciding factor, which is a bit of a worry.

Despite losing the overall consensus in the media over in the U.K., who we all know turn much quicker than down under, is that England have enough to come back and beat India, or certainly really challenge them, they had a bad second day, but were the better side for much of the first test, and in day 3 and day 4 here… if they win the toss, fingers crossed for Mohali, but I’ve been pleased overall considering that hameed, root, stokes, bairstow, woakes, and rashid have all played well considering lack of experience. Rashid looks like he will be no 1 spinner now, and moeen will have to bat well to keep in top 5.

Finally, ashwin is rubbish, I know what the stats say and he’s just taken a five for, but when the pitch isn’t misbehaving he looks completely toothless, both rashid and moeen got more turn on day 1. Yasir shah is ten times the bowler IMO having seen him last summer on non turning wickets in England, Forum discussion and sharing News from home and abroad.
