WASHINGTON — A D.C. man will spend the better part of the next decade in prison after admitting he threatened a nun’s life before stealing her car keys.
Brandon Brown, 20, of D.C., took a plea deal in the case.
He admitted that on the evening of April 9 he approached a nun who was wearing full clerical garb, pointed a gun at her head and demanded her car keys, according to court documents.
Brown’s plea documents state the nun told investigators she noticed a man with a red bandanna covering his face standing across the street when she went to retrieve a CD out of the convent’s white Dodge Caravan.
Court documents said when she turned the car off Brown crossed Quincy Street, Northeast and demanded she hand him the keys while pointing a .22 caliber handgun at her head.
As she handed him the keys, the nun told Brown, “May God bless you,” documents said.
After she returned to the convent, someone called 911.
D.C. police officers spotted the van within 10 minutes and Brown was arrested after a short chase on 26th Street, Northeast.
In Brown’s sweatpants, police found a red bandanna and the handgun with six rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber, according to court documents.
Brown plead guilty to charges of carjacking and carrying a pistol without a license.
A judge will sentence Brown in July to serve between seven and 10 years in prison with an agreed-to period of three years supervised release.
