Jim Barnett today announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor in the 2018 election.
Topeka was the first stop on Barnett’s nine-stop swing through the state, that included Manhattan, Junction City, Salina, Wichita, Liberal, Garden City, Dodge City, and Hays.
Barnett is a practicing physician. He's served in the state senate from 2001 to 2010 and was the Republican nominee for governor in 2006
Barnett is a former president of the Emporia School Board and represented Emporia and neighboring areas in the state senate from 2001 to 2010. Barnett was the Republican nominee for governor in 2006. He lost the general election to incumbent Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
Barnett said he believes that “we solve our problems by uniting people, not by dividing them and called on Kansans across the state to help him develop what he termed “a One Kansas agenda” that will consist of solutions to problems and that will help move Kansas forward.
Barnett is the third republican to enter the race, joining Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Wichita businessman Wink Hartman.
