Austin ISD Trustee Blasts Board For Stalling Confederate Name Removals - Top news: TITLE

In a 4-2 vote Monday, Round Rock school district trustees approved Paul Tisch as the new Place 6 board member. Trustees Terri Romere and Pauline Law cast the dissenting votes. Board Secretary and current Place 6 Trustee Glen Colby abstained from voting.

Colby submitted his resignation in April and Tisch will be sworn-in Tuesday, June 4.

At Monday’s meeting, Romere and Law did not say why they voted against Tisch.

Currently, Tisch is on the Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District’s Board of Directors. He served as president of the MUD from 2007 to 2009. He also served as president of the Emergency Services District No. 2 Board of Commissioners from 2011-12 and as president of the Cat Hollow Homeowners Association from 2004 to 2006.

“My service to the community has been strong and I see that as a gift,” Tisch said. “This is my way of giving back to the community that has given so much to me and my family. There was a need for someone with experience to step right in who understands the challenges facing the district. I want to help bring the board in harmony together. Board votes don’t always have to be 7-0 but after a vote the board shouldn’t harbor any resentment because of that vote. People in our community look to the board as an example of civility.”

Trustees Brian Sellers and Chad Chadwell thanked Tisch and the four other candidates for their interest in serving and going through the interview process Monday.

“Each of you had outstanding credentials,” Chadwell said. “We had a lot of positive things to say about you guys. Thank you guys for stepping forward in this position.”

“There is true potential for some quality board candidates here,” Sellers said. “We would like to see you come forward in the 2014 election.”
