In a matter of months from now, Honda will be launching the next-gen Accord and the vehicle will be coming out with a revamped trim structure.
Honda has revealed that the naturally aspirated V6 has been eliminated in favor of a complete turbocharged offering. The base Accord will rely on a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is sourced from the tenth generation Civic and it is expected to develop 190hp.
What surprised is that Honda has decided to equip the range-topping Accord with the 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is sourced from the latest Civic Type R. The mill has turned the Civic Type R into the world’s fastest FWD sports hatch around and this explains the strong hype shown towards its application on the Accord.
As much as we would love to see the Accord having a sporty performance like the Civic Type R, it is pretty obvious that such an outcome won’t happen. Today, Honda dropped more information on the range topping Accord and it confirms that the Type R mill has been detuned for greater balance in power and fuel economy.
When compared to the all-new range-topping Camry, the Accord is weaker on the power figures. All that is left is for EPA to release the fuel economy figures for the Accord and we will then be able to judge the car.
